That's because of the wonderful attitude of some of the non-admirers. This is to be expected when the some of them were lacking the manners, civility, and respect you speak of even from their very first post in here. Not to mention there were a few posts that were so out there, that you really shouldn't be surprised that people are jumping all over them. I can think of at least one example, that I really had to bite my tongue on, that I'm still surprised no one commented on. Lastly, although I wouldn't really consider it attacking, there have been few somewhat condescending responses from non-admirers towards fans.

PS - I don't consider myself to be a fan or a non-admirer, and if I realized that they made multiple posts, I probably wouldn't have even responded in the first place.

If you're going to post a link to your "look at us, aren't we cool" blog, I think you should probably expect some criticism. And if you weren't... well, you've learned something.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I've noticed two distinct types of sailing blog out there. The first is of the exhibitionist variety, with many pictures of sexy women and pretty vistas. The second is of the technical variety, with lots of 'how-to' content. There's invariably some crossover, but suprisingly little. Ownes of the first type tend to appear here with a few "hi, look at me" posts, then disappear into the ether, while owners of the second type tend to be a continuing source of knowledge and wisdom.

I think it is great what Taru and Alex are doing, granted - I might be biased, as my husband and I are also young, doing a similar thing and blogging about it...(www.windtraveler.blogspot.com) - while I agree that blogs can appear to be shameless ways to self-promote and they seem incredibly self indulgent (but if you don't like them, you don't have to read them), I have found blogging to be not only an incredibly fun way to 'journal' and chronicle, but so informative as well.

The blogosphere is vast and deep (with plenty of room for everyone, sexy or not - heh heh) and once you are a part of it, you become connected with bloggers everywhere. I have learned *SO* much from other people's blogs that are currently doing what we are setting out to do, and their experience via thier blogs is helping us tremendously. Aside from that, we already have a handful of "friends" that are out there cruising whom we have met via our blog, which is what it's all about right? Connecting with others, sharing experiences, and learning a thing or two along the way.

If I happen to be surrounded by sexy women one week, then you're going to see some pictures of them. I'm big into photography, so you're always going to see photos of those pretty vistas, and some underwater shots too. On the other hand, if I'm in work mode you may see some 'how-to' content. Or you may see a rant about how some project didn't go as planned.

It's really going to be more as Brittany put it, kind of a journal. A way for my land lubber relatives and friends to keep tabs on me. And when it does err on the exhibitionist hey look at me side, it will just be me being sarcastic, to bust the balls of some of those poor SOB landlubber buddies who are sitting in their cubicles. Well unless something completely extraordinary happens...and I really am saying, Hey look what I did." But for the most part, I don't expect anyone in the cruising community to be impressed by anything I do. And that's exactly why I won't be posting it here.

Taru - thanks very much for your excellent and professional approach to sharing your adventure and lifestyle with us. It's a refreshing change from the more common " hippy " or " old guy " look we normally see. I'm working towards my departure date, and reading your blog has two effects. One - it spurs on my motivation, and two, it shows that women like you do exist.......gorgeous and cosmopolitan yet with a bold and adventurous spirit.

While new to this forum, I'm no stranger to them, and one thing to bear in mind is that no matter what you say or do, you'll find " haters " and " bashers" who've simply got too much time on their hands since they're not actually " out there " doing it. They keep busy and get a kick out of putting down others, and typically tend to post using avatars/handles rather than their real names.....you can't " win " with them nor should you try to......just please ignore them and carry on with life!

Sara - excellent job of keeping these poor blokes in check.. Seems they're pretty good at dishing out the criticism but not too good on the receiving end.

To the bashers.......I don't get it, and never will. It's like that old adage about pornography.......if you don't like it, then perhaps you ought to stop looking at it?

Well, it is in my signature...here and on every board I'm on. If you click on it from time to time, one of these days, maybe I'll surprise you and something will actually be there. I just mean, I won't be posting a big old "check out my blog thread." Someone suggested I start blogging a few weeks ago, when I moved onto the hook, but then leaks happened. Maybe I'll finally start using it before relaunching, to at least document some of the work.

To the OP - good luck to you, hope you have a great trip with fair winds. I have no objection to your posts or blog because I am in control of my own keyboard......I think

I have realised from this that I am officially "old". When the first spate of posts arrived I clicked on most of them because the OP did a great job with catchy post titles that grabbed my attention.

Then I clicked through to the blog because I too have learnt alot from various blogs online even though I am a confirmed luddite. But for me this blog was too commercial and being too "old" it turned me off as it felt like a magazine advert rather than a real experience. Unfortunately for me this combined with the mass of posts, all with links rather than comments or queries, just made me feel a bit like I had been conned. I think VV had it right with the clash of generations (I'm 44)

I find their blog too "narcissistic" for my taste, but that's just me not their particular blog. I don't like any blog that shines a bright light into people's personal lives which probably explains my intense dislike of Facebook, MySpace and the rest.

I certainly am not going to criticise Taru & Alex for advertising, going round the world or being 28.

I guess I'm just a fuddy-duddy.....

Same here. Very few that I read regularly. Even the techie ones. If it covers a specific project I'm working on I may save that page, otherwise I go to the message boards, books, and google for help.
