I've traveled with my dog.....and would do it again, but the best pet to travel with in all practicality is a rock.

I love my pets, but if I didn't have one and was going cruising... I wouldn't get one. It does lead to a lot of caretaking.
- If you go on a day trip, how to keep the boat cool?
-Trips to beach first thing in the am every day for the dog to go potty. and later too.
- Regulations different in each island of arrival.
-Dogs and Cats fall overboard
-Dog food? Cat food?

Agree with previous posts. Love animals but boating with pets is just too complicated. for me

To a great degree your whole cruise, planning, and daily routine will have to account for how to deal with the pet. Would rather spend my time enjoying the cruise.

Dont bring an animal. Or if you must, do as Sailmonkey says and bring a pet rock. I have one you can buy, its totally housetrained, well, almost; doesnt eat much but chocolate does go missing and the best bit is I will give you the papers for free when you buy the rock for $300.

It's gotta be

Make sure she has a passport. Visa's depend on where she is from. Take an American Pet and the documentation is the same as for you.

Problems with this pet: too many to enumerate.

At least with a Caribbean cruise, if it doesn't work out, you can drop her off on an island and give her an airline ticket or MarkJ's phone number. You can't do that with a dog or cat

She'd be welcome on my boat if she were a good scrubber.

J_S might get away with a pet rock in the economies of the Caribbean.

Cruisers aiming for the S Pacific might note that Australia requires rocks collected from the surface of this planet (ones that may have contacted soil, plants, organic or other surface materials) to be declared at the Border and inspected (with the note that inspection fees and clearance fees will apply).

Rocks originating from a depth (below the nominal hard surface of the planet) of 2 metres or greater, if accompanied by a conforming declaration, become non-quarantine items and inspection fees and clearance fees are waived.

Australian Border officials say a detailed product description can allow a cruiser and their vessel to be correctly profiled. Instead of "rock", "pet rock", or "mineral", use "sacrificial zinc anode", "copper concentrate", "stainless steel stock", "engine spare part", "ballast", or similar terms.

Re: Best pet to travel with - Caribbean

You just cannot beat the humble four legged Haggis, go for the Mountain Haggis breed as they have two shorter legs on one side, greater stability on a monohull when heeled over. Not good for a Cat. as they tend to fall over. 😉
