Re: Am I Deserting My Young Adults?

If you don't go and don't live your life then your son can teach his kids not to go and then his kids can teach their kids. If you do go then your son's world will grow, then his kids world will grow, etc

Re: Am I Deserting My Young Adults?

My wife and I went cruising when my youngest son went off to college. He came to st. Vincent for spring break ad the Bahamas in May to help me sail back to the chesapeake. He said he as the envy of every guy he knew and numerous girls asked if they could come too.

Perhaps reality, as expressed by so many here on CF, did not set well with the OP. I have the feeling that lots of folks who pose these behavioral queries don't want real answers, they want support for what they want to do but have misgivings about. When we (as a group) don't all cheer them on, they disappear.

Maybe not the case here, but the lack of interaction is suggestive to me.

I think there has been quite a lot of constructive advice given... some sort of acknowledgement would be appropriate IMO.

Cheers,

Jim

How true. But that's true in person too. How many times people pose a question as if seeking advice but all they want is for you to say you agree with them, go ahead with whatever it is.

Yep. You run into that in person. You run into that a LOT in forums like this one.

That's funny. We won't call people trolls anymore, the landlubbers know what that is. Let's call them seagulls.

Before I answer your question Ms. Newbie-on-the-forum, are you a seagull?"

"Yes of course, I view myself as a majestic seabird with a lifelong affinity for the sea and all things boaty and carefree - Anyway, I just met this dashing, salty fellow named Boatman. He has a 63 foot catamaran at least he says it's his. He says he hasn't had it long - like bought it last week - and he is leaving right away for the med - I also have an affinity for Greece. He says he loves me and it's OK I don't sail. I can cook and clean and stuff. I really feel this is right and am planning to leave my husband of 20 years and my two teen age kids. All you sailor's must know how romantic this is. I'm doing the right thing, right?"

Wifey B: I have a feeling it's the "stuff" boatman is after more than the cook and clean. I'm sure he has been missing "stuff" out sailing alone.

Re: Am I Deserting My Young Adults?

Very well said Becky!
We are contemplating living aboard 53' Selene with 3 staterooms and have a 19 year old. He is in school and working full-time. He was hesitant at first but with some discussion, he is actually really excited to experience this opportunity at his age and we are happy to have him join us. We won't be traveling much for the first two years as I will continue working. Kids at that age are typically self absorbed but if they understand how important it is to you, they tend to understand.
