Cool Whip is imitation whipped cream (made of vegetable oil and corn syrup and milk) and is made by Kraft. I think it is widely available in American and Aussie supermarkets. I would have used light whipped cream as a substitute, but the recipe specifically says not to.

Ordinary whipped cream. Works really well.

HI all.

SWL - I'm sorry, it is not possible to cook without butter or heavy cream.

Not debatable. Anyone who thinks otherwise is misinformed.


Here is recipe for a different apple tart (they will applaud for days)

A different apple tart (Oh, so French!)



Peeled apples, cored and cut into thin wedges
Egg yolks
Heavy cream (oh that cream!)
Confectioner’s sugar
Butter
Puff pastry dough
Vanilla sugar
Rum, Grand Mainer or some such

Tart

1- Cut the pastry into 6 inch rounds and put them on a baking plate (use non-stick baking paper underneath!)
2- Cut the apples into thin wedges and arrange the slices artistically on the pastry
3- Sprinkle approximately 1 tablespoon confectioner’s sugar over the apples
4- Cut some thin slices of butter and cover the tarts with the butter

Bake at 425-degree for 15-20 minutes or until the tarts begin to turn brown.

Cream

The following is for 6 tarts:

1- Whip an egg yolk together with 2-3 tablespoons of confectioner’s sugar. It should become a thick cream. Slowly add either Rum or Grand Mainer. I use about 5 tablespoons.
2- Whip a cup of heavy cream relatively stiff.
3- Slowly add the egg mixture
4- You’re done!!

A little tip – you can make the egg mixture a couple of hour ahead of time. It will keep in the refrigerator. Then you only need to whip the cream



The best thing about the above recipe is the final product has no calories and eating lots of doesn't make you fat (yes, well - I'm right about almost everything)

Just to prove that desserts are really easy - here is something for when you simply don't have time. By the way, kids can make this dessert with a little supervision - they are proud as a peacock when it is served and the guests are told the kids made it.
Dessert when you simply don’t have time!

Heavy cream
Grand Mainer or Amaretto
Chopped semi-sweet chocolate
Slices of banana
A mandarin wedge or the like

Mix the cream with a little of the liquor. Whip it until fairly stiff. Mix in the chocolate and banana. Put in the refrigerator for an hour or so.

Spoon the mixture into some wine glasses and serve with a mandarin wedge on top.

Ah, I see temptation is your forte .

It is easy to make food taste good with copious amounts of saturated fat. And that is fine for the odd special occasion. For me the trick is to find mouthwatering food that tastes good without it so that I can freely indulge anytime .

ongoing research seems to now show that natural fats are not as bad as previously understood, there seems to be a definite trend back to natural dairy fats, like butter and cream. Certainly anything is better then Miracle whip !!

I agree 100%. I have not used margarine in several decades. If I need butter or cream, I use butter or cream, not artificial substitutes. I just don't overindulge and I find that high quality olive oil substitutes very well in many recipes .

Ok SWL

NO butter, no heavy cream (gad - how boring, tastes great though)


Cheese tart


Piecrust
250 grams of Mascapone cheese
1-teaspoon vanilla sugar
1 tablespoons sugar
Rum or Grand Mainer
A little grated orange rind
Chopped semi-sweet chocolate or some berries or both

Line a pie pan with the crust and bake it the oven 10-12 minutes or until golden. Let it cool.

Mix the cheese, vanilla sugar, sugar, orange rind and the liquor. The amount of liquor depends on your taste preference. Probably about 4-5 tablespoons.

When everything is well-mixed, pour it into the pie crust, decorate with the berries or chocolate and refrigerate for an hour or two.

Again, no butter or heavy cream (we're going cold turkey)


World’s best Tiramisu


1 egg yolk
1-teaspoon vanilla sugar
1-tablespoon sugar
250 grams Mascapone cheese
8-10 Savorardi cookies
Strong coffee
Kahula
Cacao powder

Mix some Kahula with the strong coffee. Turn the cookies in the coffee mixture. They should soak up the liquid but be careful not to allow them to soak too much. They should still be firm at the center. Put them in the bottom of dish.

Mix the egg yolk vanilla sugar and sugar with a fork until it is a smooth cream. Mix in the Mascapone cheese. When it has a smooth texture, pour it over the cookies. Sprinkle a little cacao powder over or decorate with some strawberry slices or the like. Refrigerate for an hour or so.

This wasn't meant to be a "healthy" thread LOL, so bring on all your favourite recipes with butter and cream.

I may counteract them with my favourite "healthier" options now and again though .

sounds like a wonderful place with friendly people. However, I haven't tried her recipe yet but will this weekend, I hope. My problem is if its chocolate, and good, I eat it all!<smile>...the waistline thing you know.....her recipe looks so very good. Thank you for sharing and thank her copiously for allowing us to try her recipe'
