Funny, I lost my p38 emergency can opener...

Funny, I lost my p38 emergency can opener recently.
I google emergency can opener thinking I'd get some ideas for using my hand tools as my wife is ordering me to feed her and what comes up on google for an emergency can opener is the original military issued p38 or p51 that I have been using for many years.
I never felt that it was an emergency all these years when I was using the p38.
Is there something wrong with me?
I hastily bought an expensive made in china canopener today and it dissolved in my hands opening the first can just now.

What tools in my tool box can I use to cook my cranky wife some food?

And..what is a truely resilient stainless boating can opener that is a little more luxury than the military issued p38?

I tried hanging my P38 on my dog tags but that turned out dangerous.
So, then tried my key ring and the thing kept opening up and tearing holes in my pockets.

Now, I keep it in the ditch bag on a lanyard along with some searat's. I think that it's purpose has always been for emergencies and should be kept in storage until needed.

Although, I did keep one in my tool box at work. Now the toolbox is resting at home,................. for awhile.

Greatest can opener in the world. We used to call it the "John Wayne" when we used it for C-Rats in Vietnam. I may stil have one around here somewhere.

I always thought it was to create an emergency......when in your pocket it lacerates your leg!!

but when in rome, a chisel will open a can quite nicely.

Tools to open a can...hacksaw but might be messy, sawzall, hammer and flat screw driver (be patient and if he wife is hungry try the first two.).

serioussly guys...im boiling water for macaroni and cheese because it was in a box.

Any good (survival) knife should have a blade that can deal with any food can. Puncture the hole, dive the blade in, and use an inside side wall to rest the tip and shear the top lid bit by bit.

This guy, below, has even better (not safer) way ... small kitchen knife and palm of his hand as a leverage point ... it works!

I've opened cans with the closest knife for years(good kitchen knife excluded).
Real can openers seem to fail pretty quickly. Not much to go wrong with a knife. Go slow at first, rock the blade keeping the curve of the blade in the cut, while keeping pressure on the spine of the knife and it's almost as fast as a regular can opener anyways.

They are still very available; not issued now since the C-rats died, replaced by the slightly larger P-51.

Seriously, go to your WalMart and get an electric can opener!

Doesn't your wife expect you to do the sauce from scratch anyway? Why do you need to open a can?

I would suggest using a chopsaw but I'm pretty certain you've already thought of that and it would make quite a mess. How about your bandsaw with a metal blade?

I keep an OLD Buck knife handy in the galley just for cans, Connie now seems to not like useing that method! so she has an electric one she replaces as needed LOL what can I say she's a great watch stander and a pretty fair navigator !!
