It's fast and efficient but the best thing is that you don't waste water and energy by churning out more ice than you need. You just fill it when you want ice and make only as much ice as needed. It's not so bulky that it can't be stowed for long periods when it's not needed.

+1, we have the same set up. The only thing we do different is we make a bunch of ice at one time, bag it and put it in the freezer.

Stainless ice tray hangs against the Seafrost freezer plate, powered by solar panels. It makes big, beautiful cubes. Use two for a frosty drink, and stick the leftovers in a ziploc bag near the freezer plate. They keep indefinitely.

Hello. Regarding the ice-maker above, I didn't see power consumed when using it. On Amazon, the second review says the water pump is 12-volts and draws .23 amps. That can't be all -- 6 amps in 24 hours?!

I know there's a catch some place. What is it please?
The link to a blog only told me about eating ice cream. Nice, but ice cream does not go well in a glass of iced tea (and that's my goal for this summer)

We have a small ice maker rated for 24 lbs a day or 9 cubes every 6 minutes. at initial compressor start draws 10-12 amps then quickly drops to 2-3 amps. The solar panels easily overcome this, our old 750 watt inverter wpuldnt handle the start up load with the smaller gauge wires we upgraded to a 2kw inverter and large wires . The inverter doesnt even run its fan the draw is so low w the icemaker.
