A bit of planning involved.

I imagine the plan was to leave on the outgoing tide Monday morning and get a week head start before the owner got wind the boat is missing. Take it someplace remote and gut out the goodies and scuttle the hull.

It has been my experience that scum bag boat thieves are not competent sailors. I hope the owner wasn't self insured like I was. I also hope the boat thieves share a cell with Bubba, a sailing inmate who doesn't take kindly to boat thieves.

Or the owner could confront the thieves as they and other inmates do the courtroom shuffle, all chained together and shout out "You molested my child, she will never be the same", of course child meaning his boat but the other prisoners not knowing that.

What I find rather curious is that the clip showed a cop standing there watching the whole thing with a pistol in hand. The CG had already been on site and the boat was rocking and the three felons were obviously busy and don't appear to be thinking in terms of a fire fight at that point. So was a drawn pistol really necessary?

All those who complain about crime in the Caribbean and worry about getting their dingy's stolen probably need to just hush up now. Must have been a shock for the owner to see his 82 foot Oyster being pounded in the surf on TV.

Jeezus- the thieves could have had any number of weapons on board. How the hell are the cops supposed to know if they do or not? Suppose someone from the boat picks off a fireman or bystander? The cops should be standing around with their thumbs up their butts while that happens? Get a clue- it's their job to protect lives and property, not yours. When that becomes your job, then you can bitch and moan about whether or not guns should be drawn.

A little kid getting shot and killed in a drive-by shooting is intensely sad. This is merely a potential headache for a very wealthy boat owner, IMHO. But maybe that's just me.

It is sad. Last summer we have a delivery crew bring an Oyster 65 down from the PNW, and it stopped in our marina to wait until the end of hurricane season before heading south. Everyone thought it was the most beautiful boat imaginable. Then, two weeks later the Oyster 82, Darling, took the slip next to the 65. At that point, we couldn't even see the 65, not just because the new boat was so huge, but because it was exponentially more dazzling.

So much for my view. I imagine it's going to be a long time before Darling finds herself a new keel, assuming she makes it off the beach intact.
