Lightning strategy

Based on real events....of course at 0200 at the end of a watch..

You are offshore approaching a wide band of thunderstorms that you cannot end around easily..

Is it better to:
A) drive right thru like they are not there
B) lay up and hope they pass
C) try to drive around the big ones using radar
D) something else?

Not sure what the correct answer is... I implemented C, and had a loooong double watch and did not take a strike.

Thanks in advance for your insights.

Always learning😊

Re: Lightning strategy

A another alternate we've used is to look at the squall line with radar to locate a thin spot and then.head through as fast as possible. We did this one night at 2am off Nicaragua only to find another cruiser heading for the same gap.

Re: Lightning strategy

Thanks for the input! Sounds like two votes for an AC fusion!
