Hailing port

We have downgraded to a Capri 26 and she has no hailing post posted just the name. I think a trailer-able vessel under 27' doesn't need to show a hailing port on the exterior? unless documented like our Catalina 320 a documented vessel it is federal law to have Name & hailing posted on the exterior. Does anyone know the answer to the Capri 26? Thanks

Re: Hailing port

I don't know for sure but if

1) it isn't documented

and/or

2) it has state registration numbers

Then I don't believe it needs a Hailing Port.

Just my WAG.

Re: Hailing port

In the US only documented vessels are required to have a hailing port.

Re: Hailing port

If you are USCG documented then you need to have a name and hailing port displayed. If you are not USCG documented then I don't know of any state that requires you to display anything other than your registration numbers -- no requirement for name or hailing port.

Registration or licensing is really the owners choice, but If you register, you must have a port listed on the transom and it MUST be selected from the list of possible ports. For Licensing you just need the name. Its easy to tell where your vessel is from when licensed as the province is the first 2 letters in the license on the bow.
