Sailor 30+years age 66 Pac NW

Hello all,

New here and like what I've read so just joined.

Sold (10 yrs ago) my Pearson 43 after 20 years taking 700+ guests sailing in Pac NW saltwater.

Now at 66 and retired I'm looking to purchase a capable cruiser in the 32' to 38' range with the NW predominately in mind for the next 7 years.

Instead of the family of 5 with room for more guest, like our Pearson provided, now it will be two with an occasional visit of grandkids.

Presently, the local chandeliers have four of some interest:

1. Gulf 32
2. Ericson 31c
3. Buccaneer 32
4. Pearson 36

Thanks for your welcome.

If you've placed the vessels on Craigslist I've seen all of them in the footage range I posted.

I rarely give a broker (seller) of anything my price range so early. A great deal on a yatch I end up regretting is too much. imho

Rodger I'm not a broker I just know of several boats in my marina and in my dads marina
(Dads 91 now) I personally hate brokers they are just as bad as realtors get paid for someone else's work they are almost as bad as politicians.

Unfortunately none in you're price range / size range. I will look around some down here if you would like. Somewhere between 30 and 38, under 36 k?

For up here, the Gulf PH might be nice. Also consider an Islander 36 PH. I'd avoid the Bucaneer.
Love those Ericson 31C's!

I looked at the Gulf 32 & liked the layout as it is unique however I've heard one really can't see over the bow from the inside steering station.

That led me to look at the 32 Buccaneer with forward pedestal steering nice Dodger 28 foot LWL vs 23 foot water line length on the Gulf 32. Add to that the ability to have a workshop below in the v-berth and flat sole throughout. The two heads a bit of a waste 32 footer.

So now I'm looking at 36 up to 42 feet with forward steering pedestals hard Dodge and at least one quarter birth.

thanks for you observations. waves

Re: Sailor 30+years age 66 Pac NW

The Bucky's aren't very well built boats and have a bad reputation. However, they are pretty much free boats now days so... for you purpose and some work.. who knows might work out.
I used to single hand my 30 and 31 footer up here and like that size personally for that. So keep in mind that moorage goes up with length, maintenance does too. I would buy too big a bot just because it's a "bargain".
Good luck!
