Sailing Home From Sardinia

Hello all,
The kids have grown up and gone, the time is right for the one last long cruise. My wife and I have bought a brand new Jeanneau 42DS (never had anything so fancy in my life before!) in France and plan to sail her back to Australia over the next 2 years. With the Aussie dollar doing such great things we may be able to sell her for about what we paid for her on our return. We are presently in Alghero, Sardinia and heading for the Atlantic in October/November/December depending on what I can learn about the timing of the trade winds. My previous sailing has mainly been in a 35 ft Huon pine boat, Sagan, around the Australian and African coasts, Indian, Southern and Pacific Oceans.

I have trawled the Cruiser's Forum for information on all the remote cruising accessories that have developed recently and found lots of useful information. (Strange to find that Hydrovane, EchoTec, and several old brands till hold the leading edge!) Now I may be able to add some for others in my turn as well as continue to learn from the assembled wisdom. Thanks to the board for running such a great service.

Yes Huon Pine is special. I built Sagan 26 years ago and she still looks as good as new. She is patiently waiting on her mooring in southern Tasmania for me to get over this plastic fantastic and come home. But fridge, showers and toilets and a big double bunk! Might take some time to get re-accustomed to the esky, bucket and solar shower and the narrow tapering bunk. But she knows I will.

I should add that our Jeanneau 42DS, Adagio II, is a marvellous boat, comfortable, easy to sail, fast, roomy, well designed and appointed, steers in reverse and we are very, very happy with her.
