On The Rosborough Privateer "Golden Girl"

"Waterguy" in Oct. 2009, posted the story of a beloved Privateer his dad sold to a guy from Alaska. Yours truly. I had spent 18 years at the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System and wanted something very different than the 50 and 60 below zero life I had known up to that point so I bought Mr. Moburg's boat in LaConner, Washington. Appropriately I paid for the Golden Girl by having some Alaskan placer gold smelted then changed her port of call to Juneau. She was indeed a beauty; queen of every marina I sailed into save one in Sausilito. When the two year leave I had taken from my work running NORAD's radars ended, I returned to Alaska and traded the boat for a condo on Maui to which I retired in 2000. Today, 15 years later, I am still thawing out on Maui. I had qualified the boat as a Coast Guard Auxiliary communications facility and have asked the C.G. to find her but the fellow with whom I traded apparently left her documentation expire. I would love to buy her back but she cannot be found. Webmaster: You have Waterguy's email address and if you contact him, give him mine. I will send him a picture of his Dad's boat bedecked with 365 seven watt lights in S.F. Bay one Christmas.

Re: On The Rosborough Privateer "Golden Girl"

According to "Confessions of a Boat Builder" - James Rosborough's book, published in 2000 - Golden Girl was bought in 1980 by Emery McCall, renamed Destiny, lost in a divorce and later abandoned and sunk in Mexico.
There seem to be few Rosborough sailboats left... more's the pity.
