New member to the forum... Sailor, Kiteboarder, Surfer...

Hello, I'm new to this forum, but not new to forums in general. I'm pretty active in other forums pertaining to other subjects.

I live in San Diego, but I'm originally from the Caribbean, and I have spent some time in Hawaii as well.

I grew up on boats, windsurfed since I was 10, began surfing in my teens, sailed Hobie Cats, Sunfish, Lasers, and I'm currently crew in one of the new Columbia 30 Sport Yachts.

I'm currently researching the market (as of March 09) for a sailboat for my wife, my son and I. I'm considering sailboats from 25 to 35 feet. I've also considered a liveaboard.

I hope to stick around and learn a lot from this forum, as well as help others any way I can.

-D

Thanks... I fully agree on " Increasing the breadth of knowledge we have here is always a good thing." statement - That goes both ways! And to think my dad, who taught me everything I know about the sea, didn't have such an awesome resource!

Ah...how nice of you to give your dad recognition. Welcome to our world. You should be able to find a nice boat in your neck of the woods.

Haha! Thanks. Well, he did. He's always been into motorboats though. And I'm into sails! But, thanks to that, I've got both sides of the coin. He did introduce me to windsurfing when I was 10, and then bought my brother and I a Sunfish when I was 14.

I remember he had a 1976 Chris Craft 21 with 2 Johnson outboards. He paid $5,000 for it new, we used it for 13 years and he sold it for $6,500. Not bad, huh!??

Aloha D,
Welcome aboard! I've spent some time in SD area and used to sail out of Fiddler's Cove in the 70s. Been awhile now hasn't it?
Good to have you here. I still enjoy going out on a Sunfish from time to time. They really are great boats.
Kind regards,
JohnL

Hehehe, David M - I like the Tree, Hole & Rabbit avatar. I still had a bunch of trouble learning the dang bowline and friend of mine taught me a different method of "hold the ignition, turn the key to start the car (to make the loop)... That one worked!

Skiprjohn: We still have that sunfish. It's in PR though. If I find some pics I'll post them. By the way, I have some very good friends in the Big Island. I lived in Maui for two years... and I miss it like no other. If it weren't for the music (I write and play), I would still be living in HI. But there, once you've played a club a couple of times, you've played to everybody!

Danny Cruz Kiteboarding

There's only weather there for Puerto Rico and Hawaii, but as far as kiteboarding goes, it's pretty cool. -D
