Hi from Cold Chesapeake Bay Region

Hi. I wanted to briefly introduce myself as I just joined this forum. My wife and I sail a Bayfield 36 on the Chesapeake Bay with our 12 year old daughter. We have been sailing for many years, starting out with a Catalina 22, moving up to a Catalina 27 and then a 30 before buying our Bayfield. We really love the Bayfield and feel she is a real sweet boat. I must say that getting the Bayfield reinvigorated my wife's interest in sailing as she really feels comfortable on this boat. She was becoming disinterested before this move! Anyway, since it is winter, we have many projects aboard her as we try to update her cosmetics. Thankfully, there are no major mechanical or structural issues.

Our cruising goals are basically coastal. My wife is NOT interested in any long distance, over the water sailing">blue water sailing but is interested in sailing the East Coast of the US and possibly the islands. That's fine by me as we don't want to give up our land base and enjoy other pursuits in life as well. We have sailed from the Chesapeake Bay to NY and Long Island Sound a couple of times and hope to get more coastal experience.

I enjoy talking about sailing and destination planning. I hope to discuss common interest in the forums.

Welcome aboard Herrick.
Looks like we have similar cruising plans, coastal cruising and the islands. My wife too is not interested in bluewater cruising.
Where on the bay are you located? We're down in Herrington South near Deale

Welcome to the forum Herrick. The forum is a great resouce for all kinds of nautical info. Enjoy. BTW I grew up sailing on the Chesapeake bay, out of Solomons Island, great place to learn to sail, thinking of sailing back up sometime. Which part of the bay is you home port?

Thanks for the welcome. I keep my boat on Rock Creek, off the Patapsco River. We've been to Herrington Harbour North and South and enjoyed them. We've had lots of experience sailing the Bay and love going to new places as well as revisiting old. My boat's name is Mandolin and if you ever see me on the water, please say hi. When monitoring the radio, I am usually on channel 71 as I hate the chatter on 16.

We sail out of the other side of the Patapsco from Old Road Bay. Will keep an eye out for ya.

How can you hate the varied and numerous "radio checks" on 16?
