40k....?

I don't think you will be buying J boats, or Hinckleys. That doesn't mean you can't find a really good boat for your range. As Swagman posted, look through yachtworld.com, and make some comparisons. Then when you find some boats that might fit. Seek out more informed people on those boats.

I would think being a sailing instructor. You have already got a good idea of exactly what will fit your needs. I foundmy boat in St. Maarten for a good price, and a lot of dreams seem to end there. Someone else's broken dream may be the beginning of yours. Also St, Maarten is a good place to refit if it needs work....BEST WISHES

40K is a budget assuming that I will have to secure all the bells and whistles after purchase. In reality, we were looking at counting on 60K after all is said and done.

Anyhow, I have also consulted with Greg Nestor's book on good affordable cruisers worthy of blue water cruises. Really a good reference point thus far! I've been on yachtworld and sailboattraderonline and have surely seen boats that are within our budget.

COMPLETELY agree that many have spend a fortune on gear and that now for one reason or another they must sell at a discount.

Off to the Miami International Boat Show (Stricktly Sail)!
