Greetings
Brand new to the forum, and about to enter my second season of sailing.
I'm in the Portland Oregon area and am looking forward to meeting
local sailors and learning more. My boat is a Venture 23 and I'm still
quite a novice. I hope to spend much more time on the water this season.

I've lurked for awhile on the forums and gleaned some excellent information and advice. Hopefully one day I can return the favor.

Do you have the Newport version of the Venture 23 with the cutter rig, or the sloop? Either way, it's a great boat to learn in because it will be less forgiving than a boat with more ballast. When you blow a tack in a Venture 23, it's blown. (And if you ever work up to a full-size cruiser, you'll feel that it's almost impossible to tack the boat into irons. And that's a good thing.)
