Another Danged Newbie

Just thought I would say "Howdy" and introduce myself. My wife and I recently bought a Catalina Capri 26 to learn sailing (I have done a little/she has done none). Hopefully after a couple of years we will graduate to something larger. Our plan is to sell our house, move to Florida and use our equity to buy a suitable cruiser for the islands. Hopefully before then we will be able to tow the Capri to California and the Sea of Cortez.

Any recommendations of a "preferred" way to learn sailing? Sailing school? Friends? School of Hard Knocks? Any insight would be appreciated.

Hey Coyote... all those and plain common sense.. the schools a good idea if you get a useful qualification out of them that'll be recognised everywhere...
Learning to sails fairly simple really.. sailing efficiently takes a bit longer but again, common sense and being aware of nature and its signs..
You'd be amazed how many times I've been asked.. "How dya know where the winds coming from.." by city folks... as their hairs whipping their eyes..
Being aware of the boats vibes.. if you've ever ridden m/bikes you'll know what I mean.. they do 'talk to you', you just have to learn how to listen... reading the water for signs of shallows and rips..
It'll come to you.. one day everything will go perfectly and thats the day you know your almost there.. like the rest of us..lol

Okay . . . please keep in mind that the OP put that up almost seven years ago - and never posted again. It will be interesting to see if he's still around (hard to believe) and reading CF, but stranger things have happened.
