Aloha from Oahu!!

Hey guys! My name is Corey, and I am coming to you guys from oahu hawaii!! I am still what you would call a novice sailor, but I am looking to broaden my experiences and to gain knowledge wherever I can. Within the next few months, I am traveling to California to do an ASA 101 through 104 class with my girlfriend, and when we moved back to the East Coast, our goal is to buy a sailboat and have it paid off and fixed up by the time I am out of the Navy. The goal is to travel around the world, using the Bahamas in the Caribbean as a good training ground until the Panama Canal. I do enjoy forums, that first hand experience always interests me more then second hand information on a computer screen. If anybody is in the local Oahu area, and would like to sit down over a couple of beers and talk sailboats and travel for a while, feel free and contact me. I will also be posting in the monohull area, As I am looking for go to the different Boats that have my attention for purchase.

Good Luck, Corey. You're starting your adventure just like many of us started...except me, I bought the boat first THEN took lessons. We don't always follow the established patterns.

You may want to check into the classes that MWR has at JBPHH. It is all small boats. It will give you the basics before going to the ASA courses.
Waikiki Yacht club has Cal 20s that can be rented by members. WYC does have a military membership.
Kaneohe MCB MWR also has a sailing classes.
Go to the Ala Wai yacht harbor on a Friday 4-5 PM with some beer and see if you can get a ride for the Friday night races. The people at the front door of Waikiki yacht club will help you find a ride.
PM me if you want more detailed info.
