An open letter in favour of nuclear energy was published on 2013.

To those influencing environmental policy but opposed to nuclear power:

As climate and energy scientists concerned with global climate change, we are writing to urge you to advocate the development and deployment of safer nuclear energy systems. We appreciate your organization’s concern about global warming, and your advocacy of renewable energy. But continued opposition to nuclear power threatens humanity’s ability to avoid dangerous climate change.
Check out the signatories, especially the third one.

Increased CO2 in open environments leads to
1) Increased predation by pests

2) Compromised nutritional value in food crops

Plants also love N, P and K. Dump a whole of that on your lawn and watch what happens.

I think Buckley would be embarrassed by the current version of the National Review. While I often disagreed with his views, I respected his intellect.

It won't matter in 20 years because mankind will self-destruct by then. And remaining survivors will have other stuff to worry about.

Jack,

That was just my way of correcting the lake-effect fellow's incorrect understanding of 1930's history... using a little sarcasm.

Re: Why Climate Change Won't Matter in 20 Years

Longtime lurker had to register to chime in on this one.

There will always be zealots and naysayers, but the rest of us are in between. It doesn't take a whole lot of data to realize we all need to think about how we impact the environment. If you see a bunch of plastic in the water then think about buying and throwing away less plastic. If the air is too smoggy think about cleaner energy or using motors less. If you are in the worst drought in your lifetime think about how you waste water. Come on, people...

toobad that doesnt work well.....without wanton sinking of ships and allout war to change customs of others not ourselves.
seems mexicans use all the fish caught-- marlin is delicious. most white folks catch the fishie and waste the meat. tell marlins how restorative that is.

I see. You can name one 1930 plutocrat who's a democrat who praised Hitler and suddenly my whole argument should come crumbling down?

The NR has an uncomfortable history with Hitler and fascism and even Wm F Jr's distancing himself from his fathers anti-Semitism hasn't completely erased the taint. But this is a derail.

My point is - that article was... crap. Most of it's central arguments are all easily dismissed as easy as the throwaway "horse manure" comparison.

But there must have been something in that article that you thought was a useful point. I'm assuming it's the message that the problem will Sort Itself Out and We'll Be Ok, Really (sorry for the caps but c'mon the article was pretty patronizing and smug in the way it tried to make this point).

Could you expand on what you think is valuable in that article?
