Alexei I agree with you in principle as individuals need to take responsibility for their own choices but there also needs to be some better oversight in corporate greed within public companies.

Let's see, a guy who runs a multi-billion dollar company and is held responsible for the work of 10s or 100s of thousands of people gets paid the same amount as 364 people. Sounds like he's UNDERPAID, if you look at it that way.

If people spent as much time and effort focusing on how to better themselves as they seem to do compiling executive salary statistics and bitching about them, they'd be a lot closer to making those kinds of salaries themselves.

More on topic, what qualifies someone as a pirate? I think the modern day somali pirates have that list beat. They have that giant cargo ship that's gotta be worth more than 120 mill plus it's loaded with something like 20 tanks. They aren't doing bad.

I think a loose definition of a pirate is:…. someone who removes by force the belongings of another…without any kind of implied government approval or sanction.

Sorry but I have to say this I don't think that it is fair to say that highschoolers are unskilled and inexperienced. I can do just about anything you want me to with few exceptions. for example some of the things I do on a regular basis are: Welding, painting, construction, plumbing, wireing,debris removal, cooking, logging, raceing (4-wheelers), refurbishing and maint. on trucks and heavy equipment, operating tractorsand other heavy equip., sailing, search and recovery diving, and more. Weare usually just not old enough to be hired for such jobs by law so we have to settle for Macdonalds. so we aren't unskilled.

I read a while back about this lady: Ching Shih (c. 1785 – 1844). Accounts of her life clearly are sketchy, but even so, what an incredible woman! Her life would make an interesting movie!

Well Little Otter:
It sounds like you have spent your time doing things other than sitting in a government ran school telling you that you can't possibly do anything because you are not a professional in the field. That is good, but you must recognize that:
1. Most high schoolers have never done enough work to develop half the skills that you have.
2. While you can do a lot of things you have probably not worked years at 2000 hours or more per year at very many of the things that you can do. Therefore, as a professional in those jobs you would probably hire in as a trainee, not an experienced professional.

Please do not take this as an insult. I have done many jobs for a living before graduating college, including working as an " electrician", AC mechanic, appartment maintenance, equipment operator etc, and I am a professional electrical engineer, but to compare my skills at over 40 as an electricain to my father who is over 70 is very humbling.

My Old man is still a better electrician than I will ever be. My old man can sit down and slowly do a job in half the time it takes me to do the same job. He does it better neater, faster, and with less waste. My dad is not an electrical engineer, and I am not an electrician. I have done wiring on cars, houses, boats, and I have designed and troubleshot electrical and electronics.

There is a profficiency developed by people who work a job for thousands of hours to hundreds of thousands of hours. There is a respect that they deserve, and there hours working are worth more than a beginner.

I respect young people like yourself who have the balls to learn, try and do new things. I believe people like you deserve respect as well, and I do not confuse you with a professional in any of the fields that you mentioned.

Kinda hard to get this back on topic though since most of you can't even comprehend that kind of money. so if i try to explain it..we'll break it down into a standard work year of hours and divide by 2080 and we get...1.77million dollars an hour. still kinda high so lets break it down into seconds..and we get $29,647. There ...you should be able to grasp that. But that's ok as no one was affected by the poor loans that he bet on. Ok...enough silly talk. Back to the topic at hand.

If I had known there was a way to bet against those bad mortgages I would have done it. I can say that now.
