You can keep Florida. I just got back from 13 degrees lattitude. And it was 85 degrees. They don't ever get as cold as 72 degrees down there.

i'll keep Florida for now. but there is a lot of difference between 13 and 30 degrees latitude. my brother lives in St. Thomas and they break out their blankets when the temp falls below 70.

I'll be in Key West the week of March 10 with my family. Any members that want to have a cool one with me who are there, let me know.

I just finished shoveling a foot of snow and you know I would still rather live here in Minnesota than that giant strip mall they call Florida. It is a good example of developement gone amuck. Yuk! There are so many better places to go where it is warm year round. I will be heading to Hilo Hawaii at the end of march to spend a few weeks with relatives and do some fishing. I will keep my distance from the Kona coast though as big resort developements don't spin my crank. May spend some time on the North Shore of Oahu with another cousin.

Was in Orlando last week. 18 C Max, with a wind advisory (can't give you knots, I fear.)

And not only was it coolish, but it was Orlando. In the immortal words of Gertrude Stein: "there's no there there."

Thanks Gonesail! Appreciate the motivation and support! *darn *&@!#()#U_)@ LOL (just kidding) at least it's good to know others are not as miserable as us here in the Great Lakes! Good fun ribbing and joking aside too!

My wife is insisting we move to either Hawaii or Florida .....Will probably be a live aboard on a bigger boat.

Well, time to prepare for the next snow storm, but dream of summer months here in Green Bay, WI

I think the Puerto Rico is to far north and Virgina....is well, cold! I miss Bonaire and the Ven out islands. Just 4 1/2 more years and we are gone again forever. No more snow!

Whenever I visit Florida, I am filled with a mixture of both awe and anger. What began as a very unique peninsula and some of the most remarkable ecosystems on the planet has now become perhaps the greatest ecological tragedy the United States has known. I have hiked/paddled/sailed into some of the remaining vestiges of that incredible landscape. I can't help but marvel at what the landscape must have looked like a few hundred years ago.

Florida?
Bugs and swamps and rats and heat and humidity and alligators, relieved by a couple of months of nice weather. Not to mention the crazy mix of drivers and the roads.

No thanks, not for me. It would still be an empty swamp if folks didn't have air conditioning.

Raven,
When you look at what's happened here, you can't help but think that people have learned a lesson and that it will get better ... sadly, that's not true. I'm living in the Keys right now (and enjoying it immensely) simply because 10 years from now ... only millionaires will be able to do this. For me, it was a "now or never" situation.

Bob,

It has been interesting to see what has happened to the Keys in just the past couple of decades. Ya gotta wonder, though. With changes coming from many fronts, will the millionaires hold dominion in 10 years? Or will the sea?
