Photoshop Horror?

Ok, so I don't know if i'm causing a copyright problem for the mods here (the original has been modified by the addition of my ipad header) but this jumped out at me as 'wrong'.

I understand using Photoshop to improve the sea-colour etc but the below looks like the whole foreground has been pasted onto another background completely! I'm sure "Sailing Today" has never done this before.... even the resolution between the foreground and background seem different. Look at the lazy cropping around the lady's hair! Am I imagining this?

Comments, please...

Re: Photoshop horror?

Main is eased and she is well heeled over. But not enough breeze to lift the flag? I agree it is a poor photo. The water looks nice though. Not that color where you sail?

Re: Photoshop horror?

No..you are not imagining things,,you are looking at a typical Photoshopped magazine cover.
Back in the old day's this was called airbrush editing, so it's nothing new.
Its just that we have come to accept it and ignore what we see.
Even though its all a lie..

Re: Photoshop horror?

And considering the heel angle it appears a LONG way down from the rail to the sea surface... and the comely winch wench isn't leaning in the right direction for that much heel either.

I think that you are correct... it's fudged.

Cheers,

Jim

Re: Photoshop horror?

My only objection is that it is badly done.

Re: Photoshop horror?

Jeesh, if you were gonna go to those lengths to photoshop, you could at least put the winch wench in a bikini...

Re: Photoshop horror?

The blessed looks of the winch person remind me of the Watchtower.

It is possible the head was actually shot in studio and then pasted.

Re: Photoshop horror?

You're all wrong, of course it's a genuine photo, sailing in the English Solent Sailing todays home waters is always like this.

Re: Photoshop horror?

Have you seen the Cialis commercial where the guy fixes a broken mainsheet shackle on his J boat "calmly and in control"? The last scene he is sailing along, but if you look closely the jib is backwinded on the windward side!

Re: Photoshop horror?

And you know there are so many sailors out there taking brilliant photos - why not go with simple and authentic?! That photo is total cheese and wouldn't entice me to buy the mag. Neither would the bikini wench double d version.
