Marine-Related Mailing Stamps

For our philatelist friends, the Bermuda Gov has just released a new series of stamps depicting the history of our Marine Pilot Services.
Scenes showing the gigs and the crews are well presented.
Up until 1932 these services were on a private competetive nature of first to the ship got the job.
Thes gigs, 40 ft by 4 1/2 ft, would go "over the edge" (horizon) to catch a ship, and one famous incident saw one sailed to Cape Hatteras because of weather.
My father did one trip as navigator after getting off of the Furness Withy steamers in 1931. He told me "never again"

Here in the States there's a really nice Edward Hopper stamp out now, with a sweet little sloop reaching alongshore past a lighthouse. I bought enough to last me for years. . . .

That's pretty cool! Here in the states you can have custom stamps made with your own picture. We did this once, but I never thought of using the boat?........i2f
