What's the view on Europe from elsewhere ?
Rising numbers of refugees/immigrants are reviving former racist sentiments again, violence/aggression is rampant, Schengen is about to be suspended; in many member states, like France, ultra right-wing parties are on the verge of getting elected to power; Britain has just distanced itself from the EU; Eastern Europe nations discover that the EU is more than free funds and are reconsidering their membership, Greece is a financial bleeder, etc, etc
Is this all a deja-vu of the Thirties ??

Personally I think Germany bit off more than they can chew but hats off for trying to be the humanitarians of the world. The US had a big hand into getting the ball rolling but they have no interest in helping out. It's a crazy world out there and it is probably a real good time to be out cruising.

if you stopped watching the news you would never know there was a crisis!

sterling buys you 1.29 euro which is considerably better than it was a few years back.

if I remember we had a similar situation of doom and gloom when the berlin wall came down with fears that western Europe was going to get flooded by economic migrants from the east.

my advice take the mainstreem media with a pinch of salt,they all have agendas

Is it really? I'm in Rotterdam, and the marina is located in a predominantly Muslim area. Nothing much has changed in day to day life ...
People that were racist / anti-whatever-religion still are; the vast majority still uses common sense and isn't

The most shocking news was shortly after Paris: our Mayor (Moroccan-Dutch Aboutaleb) was rushed out of a restaurant because they'd spotted a car with Belgian plates parked nearby

Politically, there is a LOT going on, obviously, and we'll have to see how all that plays out. So many agenda's at play there ...

But I haven't noticed any more racism or aggression compared to, say, a year or two ago. And in spite of all the talk, crossing the borders between Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany is still easy as can be. I went to Belgium early this year and didn't even notice I'd forgotten my passport until I got back to my boat ... You wouldn't even notice you left the Netherlands if it wasn't for the street signs suddenly looking different
