Re: Bulk Carrier runs over cargo ship

Just amazing and scary! Wonder if language difficulties entered into the equation. Just does not make sense for this to happen IMO.

Could it be interaction? Pressure wave from bow of beks pushing the stern if the other one?

Most likely at the latest stages of the accident ... but they were never supposed to come that close to each other in the first place.

The original video has been taken down from YouTube. But here's one video link that works:

Re: Bulk Carrier runs over cargo ship

Looks like a classic case of interaction to me, the bulkie thought he could sneak up alongside the smaller ship and his bows pressure wave caused the other ship to swing uncontrollably to port across his bow.. Nasty.

That whole area is a mad house, I used to be officer of the watch on container ships running around there, the stuff of nightmares. Little fishing boats poping up right ahead with only a candle and nets all over the place, shoals and smoke from forest fires. I used to come of my watch exhausted.

I have the feeling at least one Skipper wasn't. Regardless, too close to pass.

It does seem like some testosterone was involved somehow

I always thought standing watch was easy. Probably is 99% of the time. It's that 1% that will exhaust you.

I guess at this scale, flipping the bird from the bridge just doesn't have the same impact.

I wonder how many cruisers 'went missing' under that bow. Only difference I see here is that he probably felt the bump this time.

Re: Bulk Carrier runs over cargo ship

More about the 'players':
Quote:
SINGAPORE: A Vietnamese-registered cargo vessel damaged one of its hatches after it collided with another vessel in the waters off Singapore on Saturday.

The Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore said the collision occurred about 3.4 kilometres south of Sisters Islands.

MPA said there was no oil spill or injury to crew members. Traffic in the Singapore Strait was also not affected.

A YouTube video showed the collision between the Vietnamese-registered cargo vessel "MV Thuan My" and a Marshall Islands-registered bulk carrier "MV Beks Halil".

Following the damage, the Vietnamese ship was shifted to the Raffles Reserved Anchorage for repairs.

The bulk carrier had no significant damage and continued its journey.

Re: Bulk Carrier runs over cargo ship

It’s all fun, until someone gets a stick in the eye.
Even if you do not know the maritime laws.

This one is a no brainer.

It’s the law of tonnage and the bigger boat always wins, so do not play with big boats

Big boat always wins
Little boat always looses
