Another Warrior Gone

My Father, born 6/6/1927, passed this last Tuesday. He was a veteran of WWII and served with Carlson's Raiders on Makin and Guadalcanal. While he was one of the meanest, nastiest persons I ever met, he mellowed later in life and we became fast friends. He will be missed.

Very sorry to hear of your loss. We all mellow with age, but it seems to take combat vets a tad longer.

It is wonderful when our parents finally become our best friends. I lost my best friend, my father, 12/16/07. My thoughts are with you.

Seems like we are all losing them at the same time. My Dad past away August20/2008. The first thing that came to my mind was I had not said enough to him. I was in the hospital myself during this time experiencing my second heart attack. Thank God things did not come in 3's that time!

I chatted on the phone with him Saturday. We talked the weather, my race car and the boat. He complained about his ribs aching then. I hear ya about the 3's thing. He was the third this time. A cousin and Uncle preceded. I just smoked a very nice Romeo y Julieta vintage in his honor, in a snowstorm outside. He'd have chuckled at that.

Sometimes it is not what you have lost, but what you have gained by having someone in your life. I am sure there was smile beaming down on you through the snowstorm...............i2f
