I agree with everything except the "sheesh" -- it's not typical, and not everyone can do it. Myself, I don't have the sailing experience to handle a 40' footer by myself, and I want a boat I can solo safely, so I have a 31' -- but it's not typical, and it is remarkable.

A lot of women have been carefully programmed all their lives to believe they can't do these things. And maybe to some extent they can't -- have never held a screwdriver for more than putting a pre-packaged desk together, for instance ...

I have had a VERY steep learning curve on the mechanical end.

right now i would rther fix an engine than do my mast boots and wedges..seems the wedges have dried out over time and the masts pump in winds--water pours into boat and everything--so we removed both boots and today we go to see the canvas guy for more material and clean and paint the 2 masts at the boots fitting area and create new wedges to place between masts and partners, where they pass thru the decks....this should accomplish much prevention of water ingress and keep decking from softening....we should be done with this project in slightly less than a week....then we start other topsides items and ready boat for haulout--

Im now on the scheduled maintenence programme and I aint even finished building yet.

Sure beats mowing the grass and clipping the hedges though

troubles are always round the corner....you might want to try and seal the deck around the masts with some west sytems to keep the water from absorbing into the deck..they is also a rubber insert that can either be wrapped around the deck or the mast to keep the shems in place....in some cases if the gap is not to you can eleminate the shems altogether....good luck with it and I hope that might help some.....by the way Happy Mothers Day to all you sailor ladies

today i had guy go up mast-- mothers day present was the fact i havent any rot at spreaders--HOOYAAAHHH... and we foud a fitting needs to be repaired--ok.... and we looked at base and ste to mizzen and we have enough penetrating epoxy to strengthen the beams holding the step and batteries.....hooyaahhhh..... is only m0ney--but needs badly to be done, or in 1 yr i will have no boat. ok.
we doing it to it. now is blowing 20+kts and kids are out in banderas bay sailing optimist dinks and lasers in this --is more outside of the marina....hooyaaahhh....so--stuff is coming along nicely. i got really lucky with this boat. realllllly lucky. i hope my good fortune remains for a while.
i love this boat.

oh yes--plan is to inject the deck around main mast with epoxy for strength. is plywood with fg over and under..should go well.

Hola, Zee, that ships chandlery between the old marina and downtown PV on the east side of the street used to carry Smiths Penetrating Epoxy which would do the trick for you. It is a little spendy but brush it on and soak it until it won't take anymore and it sets up like whale sh*t.
There are also a couple of pretty good paint shops that carry a Mexican penetrating epoxy but it doesn't seem to set as well as the Smiths in my experience and takes longer to dry.
There was a yank who ran the machine and marine repair shop on the side street down by the old windmill a few years back in the old marina who can probably steer you in the right direction if he is still there and you haven't already got your materials sorted yet. Cheers, Capt Phil

Good planning, Zee... I seem to recall that he might have gone by that name and he probably suffers from a little dementia now. He was a helluva mechanic in his day and very knowledgeable. He has lived in PV for over 30 years now I would guess... CP
