Full length mirror

The Admiral would like a full length mirror on the boat. We have a door to our cabin that I can mount one where it would be out of the way with the door open and visible when the cabin door is closed. I was going to go to a discount store and buy one and then use six or eight screws to attach it to the door.

Anybody have any suggestions for a better way to do this? I'm open to other ideas.

I got a full length piece of mirrored plexiglass (seemed better than glass on a boat) and just screwed it to the wall with 6 screws with finish washers - held up perfectly (since 1998).

Inexpensive, unbreakable, and functional, and even light weight . . . . can't beat that.

A "full length" mirror needs to be only one-half of the user's height and width. In stiletto heels. Just a tip.

I agree with Evans--don't do a glass mirror on a boat. Research plastic varieties. Acrylic in 1/8" thickness works well.

Many cheap full mirrors are plastic. Get one of those. But be prepared to see how you actually look as a cruisier though!.
Maybe the admiral would feel better if you just blow up this image and make it look like a mirror? :>)

Not plain screws, there are "mirror mounts" that usually are sold with the mirror. And there are plenty of non-glass "back of door" mirrors sold just for mounting on doors. The mirror mounts are little "L" shaped blocks of plastic, the screw goes through one side, and the other sits in front of the mirror to retain it.

What about mounting it horizontally rather than vertically; above the main bunk is a convenient place; just make sure the mounting is secure.

Thanks, all. My major concern was the idea of a big piece of breakable glass onboard. Even located behind a door that is normally open underway, I just didn't like the idea.

I will check into the plastics. Great suggestion!

I may also go ahead and print the image of the lovely lady cheechako provided and tape it above the berth. It was nice knowing you guys.

If going glass, try lots and lots of double sided foam tape rather than (or as well as) screws.

Take a look at TAP Plastics. They make mirrored acrylic sheets.

Glass mirrors can be had with a heavy mesh on the backside. Have sold hundreds of them in my retail days.

My captain mounted two full length mirrors. One in the V-berth and one in our aft stateroom. They were specially made of beveled glass with the top of the mirrors rounded like the doors. Very nice. He mounted them with a good adhesive that doesn't interact with the silver backing. We live aboard and are now sailing in the Caribbean. They have been in place since 2008.
