Destin, FL Anchoring

Can anyone tell me if there are any good anchoring places around
Destin or Ft Walton Beach, Fl. I'm going there in late spring for a
couple weeks.

Depends what you are looking for. Boggy Bayou in Niceville, Bluewater Bay, Destin Harbour, lots of deep water up and down Choctawhatchee Bay that you can anchor, outside of markers, it is VERY WIDE bay, but keep in mind that if there are storms going thru, especially coming out of the west, that Bay gets Very very dicey

Destin

Gailwind,

As a TN boy turned Floridian I'm happy to see some Orange Blood coming this way. I'm a liveaboard here in the area and there are plenty of good spots to be had to set the hook.

Where were you going to be spending most of your time? The bayous mentioned earlier are all good spots, you can also anchor right in the Destin Harbor if you draw less than 6' and there are a couple of public mooring balls but they go quickly. The entrance from the gulf and into the harbor change almost daily and can both be tricky, best to follow behind one of the locals if you can. All of the local bars and restaurants are easily accessible from the harbor.

Also I don't know how much bridge clearance you need but there are two bridges here that are 50' (or lower) the Destin bridge and the Brooks bridge. They both keep me from heading out to the Gulf that way or west on the ICW.

Good luck, let me know if you need any local info.
