Possible date of departure is April or May.
Atlantis is an Ocean Spirit (build in South Africa)

You are in my old stomping ground (Port Elizabeth, Plettenberg Bay and Cape Town). Wish I could join you as crew but my commitments here in the UK don't allow for that right now and around May - July we will be in the Carib looking for our boat.

I don't think I am the right person to ask. There are many on this forum who are more knowledgeable, experienced and capable of giving you a more reliable opinion. For what its worth I can tell you that a steel hull is robust but there is a big caution ... they require a lot of maintenance and are probably way more expensive to attend to when problems arise with the hull. A new(ish) steel hull would be great and steel will take a pounding way more than fibreglass ever will but without proper maintenance (which is expensive anyway), you will be buying a huge bottomless pit of money.

For me, I would never consider a steel hull because it is way out of my financial league. If you can afford the repairs, maintenance and refurbishment costs it probably is a good option, otherwise, stick to fibreglass, its way cheaper and quicker to repair.

I am also more inclined to go for more modern designs (and some would smack me for saying that), so its a case of horses for courses and all dependent on budget and inter alia, the reason/purpose/usage for which you want a boat. There are so many considerations I would suggest "trawling" through CF older posts and you are definitely likely to get great info.
