Cabin heater

Our current vessel is an H28, the limited living spaces of which are best described as 'cozy.' The problem is, it is not so cozy in wintertime. We don't live on board, but do like to make extended cruises right through the year. I have the tools and the skills and a large assortment of schedule 40 stainless pipe offcuts up to 6" I/D. So I think I could make myself a little bulkhead mounted wood fire.
Unfortunately I don't know anything about the design of such a stove, and I can see that if I get it wrong then all the heat generated will just disappear straight up the chimney. Can anyone point me in the right direction design-wise please?

I just removed a nice Paul Luke cabin fireplace. It uses slabs of soapstone on the sides to absorb and radiate the heat. Check out the web site www.peluke.com. Mine is for sale in the classified section of this forum if you are interested. I have all of the chimney pieces to with it as well.
