Re: Bimini = Bucket of water on my head

Beautiful old boat. Is she in good condition?

The boat is in amazing shape, trying to track down the builder. A number of older marine repair guys, and the marine builders of BC encyclopedia (the owner of the site), thinks it is a Grenfell boat. Grenfell is kind of like BC's Monk designer. Well known and respected.

Thorton Grenfell also would design and not build for other builders, so I'm convinced I have a Grenfell designed boat, not clear Grenfell himself built it. All Grenfell builds were custom. The reason I'm not sure this boat is Grenfell built is it has no scuppers!!!! Let that sink in, when it rains, the water drains into the bilge, and this in Coastal BC where rain is a way of life. I don't think the good Mr. Grenfell would have been that dumb.

The boat will be minimally 50 years old next year, but it might have also been built in 1961 which means even older. The boat is in amazing shape, two deck leaks, one I believe from a Cleat through the hull and the other I believe is a stanchion leak.

The boat goes on the hard in a week or two for refit, correcting the no scuppers problem, getting the leak repaired, the galley area torn out and rebuilt, new deck, a bow thruster, and other goodies. Thinking of adding a small wood stove either the Cubic or Grizzly built in Quebec, the price is right. Also adding storage and redoing the dinette area, and of course new cushions.

Had same thing happening. Took foam pipe insolation and sliped it on the tubs . Raised it enough to keep water from pooling there . Cost $ 1.98 Many sizes and if it doesn't work you piss away 2 bucks

This. It was poorly designed. Fix or replace.

Talked to my refit guy who's thinking of purchasing a Bentley after my refit. He said its easy to fix, he just adds more hoops.

Eyelet at the low point, plumb in some plastic/surgical tubing, drain overboard or collect in freshwater tank. If tanking be careful to have a float valve as not to overfill the tank when away from the boat.
