I'm sure that going through a Hurricane is no picnic. I plan to head south from New York in October so much of the season will be over. I don't know what I will do next year

Gunner - I'm very happy for you. Would love to meet you on your travels some day. If you every find yourself cruising up to New England you have a mooring in RI waiting for you.

Your friend - Scott

Congrats, Irwinsailor.

This has been a very long haul for you, that we have all gotten to watch over the years.

If you find yourself passing through Annapolis, and need a slip, I would enjoy having you as a guest at my dock.

I think that there is a very good chance that we will not be going south this summer. Today my Dad was told that his cancer has returned. I am his only family and I can't leave when he is sick.

I am sorry to hear about your father. I went through that with my mother a few years back. Mom had first had cancer 15 years earlier and had several bouts in the intervening years. It was amazing how much the treatment of cancer had advanced over the period from her first cancer. I hope this turns out well for you. These things can be a real emotional roller coaster. Hang in there.

The curse of getting older is having to deal with the passing of family and all the chores and grief that goes with it. My step farther passed this winter and my father-in-law is not well and ahs not been well for about 4 years.

You might think you can prepare for these disasters but I don't think you really can. Knowing ahead of time but not really knowing isn't much help.

You have to decide early on what it is you can really do and be ready to accept that it is the best you can do knowing it might not be enough. There lies the paradox you spin over and over again. So it isn't should you go or not go, but what it is you can do that will make a difference to your family, and of course youself.

Gunner, I am sorry to hear that. Seems when you are young it is tough to go cause there ain't no dough and then when you are older you have responsibilities that prevent departure.

Maybe we'll see you in the Great Lakes this summer.

Thank you all for your thoughts. My Dad needs more tests to see what exactly what he has and what treatment he will need. Our plans are on hold, I will not have him face this alone. Like I said before I am his only family.

Gunner.

Will you be living on your boat still. Eventhough, you'll be tending to your father?

I bet you had alot of memories with that house?
