..then how you gonna have a dream come true?

I've been accused of being a dreamer all my life, mostly by my family who hear it all the time, strangly enough I've done a hugh amount of things I'd dreamed of as a kid.

My life long dream has been a world circumnavigation and I'm planning to do it as soon but want to follow the routes(s) of my hero William Dampier.

Has anybody done this and can feed me advice please.

Price Harry, sorry bad news for you, dream all you like but your Bro is going to get the crown. Still as a future Prince of Wales you wouldn't want to be the first POW in history to not have a mistress.

A dream or a 5 / 10 year plan? probably the same thing, don't think it matters which so long as you have one. The plan can even change but at least you have a goal to aim for rather than life passing by.

Must go and check my pension to see when I can retire

I remember reading that everyone works to fullfill a dream. Either you have one of your own and go for it or, like 90% of the world, you resign yourself to suburbia, a mortgage, keeping up with the Joneses (who you don't like anyway) and what you are doing is helping to fullfill your employer's dream. I know it's true because I have a dream and a bunch of employees helping me get there. For their own sakes I wish they'd get their own but some just can't see it and want to call people like me and you "dreamers".

I say, Go for it, fullfill your owns dreams, you dreamer!

I agree with not waiting too long. I did. Who knows how long the battery will last? So if you want to do something, do it now, while you are still ticking. If you are lucky, you might still have some time left afterwards - to try the next best thing. Sailing is not everything.

When we could (finally) afford a boat and the very basic cruising kitty, we just went ahead and sailed around the world (without actually intending to do so in the first place). Turned out much easier and far more boring than we ever imagined it to be. Was it worth it? It was, to me.

And beware. Some get addicted.

Ok – your profile name might make you sound a bit delusional, but what is wrong with being a bit eccentric? I have had similar dreams all my life. The biggest disappointment has always been the “ordinary” people who want to hold us back and the fact we often listen to them. I am not recommending going off half-cocked, but dreams can come true!

(I should take my own advice as I sit hear bored senseless surfing for tips and inspiration while my boat is waiting on its mooring?).

Dreams had better come true or half my day has been wasted , i have been enjoying the dreaming today and the surfing about the forum, but what you say is true SurferShane, I had better do something to get closer to the dream too....... hmmmmmmm plotting the course i want to take, or drawing plans for the galley fitout ... what to do?? what to do?? decisions ... decisions ......( or perhaps I should get back to the real work I am supposed to be doing ( marking essays) instead of procrastin' and boat dreaming. )
