I don't know why your puting in saildrives but in general it is a mistake. They just aren't built for a long life though some brands are slightly better than others. If it is not too late you need to check on maintenance schedules and costs as it relates to shaft seals and the props shafts themselves as well as main seals and clutches. If I could go the other way I would. If you want more detailed info on maintenance schedules from a ZF factory rep pm me. You may want know it anyway. You probably won't find some of it anywhere else.

Yeah, that might be good advice to consider quickly too because I would have snatched up one of these a year ago had they popped up then when I was in the market.

I like the saildrive idea. Have one in fresh water so no corrosion.
Boat on the hard every winter. So service is done then.

In salt water no way!
My catamaran broker of note says sail drives have killed many a closing.

In bronze with in the water oil changes possible I could be a promoter.

In Ft Lauderdale at a dock I had a 3 week old zinc completely dissolve!!

Stray current in 10 days!?!?!? Really!?!?!? More like the guy used them as a ground while arc welding. Just a little hard to believe!!! I have stray current around my boat with 2 sail drives in salt water and just hung a sacrificial zinc I purchased from West Marine [the fish one] and attached it to the ground on the engines. No corrosion present after 1 year, problem resolved for about $40/ sail drive.

The huge fish anode over the side only lasted one summer.

Well at least the "fish" is only $40! A lot less than a said drive and gives you the heads up that's there's stray stuff happening! So then you should deal with it or move to another location. I had an older power boat beside me years ago that was using all kinds of electricity and I was having my zincs ate up in 3-4 months. I moved 4 docks over that had Wed. night racers on each side of me and never had to replace my zincs again. I'd just clean them up occasionally. Cleaning them is something that most forget about doing. They won't work well if all crusted over with crap. File, wire brush or grind them back down to fresh zinc again every now and again. They'll work a lot better!!!

Guess what? If your anodes don't deplete, then they aren't doing their job.

Sometimes your right, I had one on an outboard that never changed, looked new while the others wasted away. Removed it and saw a nice shiny layer of gloss black paint from the factory, so it was insulated of course.
I have had others say their anodes last for years though, mine just a few months. I believe if there is no stray current, then they may last a long time.

Hello Debgen,

I just finished a repower so I need to changer propellors and repitch for more HP. I have a few questions of you have some time to help me understand how to adapt your propeller to my boat.

Which model are these props; Easy, or classic?
Do you have the model number?

I see they are all cleaned, did you send them in to PYI have them checked?

What shaft fitting, key or taper? Makes a difference in having to buy a new shaft.

Thanks in advance for your response

Bob

I exaggerated. Wasn't stray, the owner was doing some electrical work, was interrupted, and left a wire dangled into his bilge. But it really was just 10 days. Both sail drives toast. The mechanic who replaced them keeps the old one for demonstration purposes lol.

All the irrelevant responses do not tell me the shaft side and diameter or if they are still available.
I would be interested in one if it would fit.
