Pollux.. I used to have a Corribee 21 but gave her to the young marina manager a couple of years back as she was just sitting rotting in Fig da Fox.. Currently she's sitting in his garden getting a refit.. never got to sail her as was away delivering most of the time.
This one appeared in Jan with an offer to good to refuse.. Karma x 2 one could say as L'Enjoleuse is nearly twice as long..

assuming the resevior is full,and there is no leak,there are a few things that can cause the sloppy steering.

a good first test after ascertaining no leaks and full reservoir is;
turn the wheel to rudder hard over position and see if it keeps turning.

this will indicate if there is a problem with internal seals in the ram,or if the pump is shot.

the ram is easy,and cheap to fix by replacing the seals,and the most common problem.

if the problem persists then it is the wheel pump,which would probably need replacing,not so cheap.

keep us posted.

Cheers Alex.. just back from a hike across the island for belts for the Auto helm 3000.. To small but maybe I can bodge a solution to the size and the slipping.. should know in an hour or so after this double expresso and chocolate booster in the Bean..
Should also know more about the hydraulics now I've got some fluid

you can stich the drive belts together to make longer ones,

or move the drive unit closer to the wheel

Repaired the two old belts by stitching.. cut one of the new ones to size and super glued it to the hub teeth out to stop the slipping.. just need to remove the belt when on standby..
Now have 3 stitched belts and one nonslip drum..
have the leak in steering head drain plug where someone crossed the threads tapped, threaded and plugged.. two new 3.5 metre lengths of hose and fittings.. tomorrow finish fitting the new seals in the hydraulic ram then install the lot back in situ... then... if it still don't work I'll blow up the frickin boat...

Ah, hydroholics. What fun stuff.
A bunch of years ago I was running a 78' custom MY on test sea trials on the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington. Making high speed turns between the banks when one of the factory hoses blew. Very exciting to find yourself with no steering, heading towards the bank. Well, one of the test criteria was a crash shift into reverse. It wasn't how I'd planned to do the test but it was very effective.
Twas a long way back to Portland steering with engines only, but not so bad in execution. Glad I did not have to clean the bilge after that.
Boaty - you mean to say you can't steer with your mind by now?
