Sadly, my wife won't play chess with me. Something about my having an expert's rating and never letting her win discourages her. Even speed chess at 10 - 1. That especially bother's her. Back to Yatzhe and Backgammon. She does however beat me regularly at dominos!

We have a game, it takes about 15 minutes then after that you can go do something else. Its not one you feel compelled to play over and over (best of 3, 5, 87)

Lol, I just bought this a few weeks ago for my girlfriend and I to play together. Great game!

Our dear daughter (12) is the proud owner of an IPod Touch. I don't think much of it one way or the other, I thought it would just be for music. But ... she was able to download the Game Of Life for 99 cents. It's like the board game but no board or any little pieces. We played with four people by passing the IPod around from player to player and it was surprisingly fun and satisfactory. Apparently Scrabble is also availabe in this form and we're going to get that next.

For "real" games I second the dominoes.

I'd also add highest recommendations for Killer Bunnies, but you do need to spread out a bit. It is easy to store, just a box of cards. It's wacky but tons of fun. OK, it looks like a lame kid's game, but it's more than that, and it is bound to amuse adults too if you have guests aboard. Especially fun if you like to let your inner homicidal manic go wild once in while. It's hard to find in stores, you might have to order it.

Killer Bunnies and the Quest for the Magic Carrot

Edit: Forgot to mention that you can add-on extra card sets to Killer Bunnies and it becomes increasingly complicated and more edgy. We are up to the Orange Booster Deck, I think.

Master and Commander.

a.k.a Master vs. Commander - in this case make sure you cook well, should you win.
