Around the World with Jean Du Sud - in HD

Hi All,

I want to start by making clear I get no renumeration from this project. A short while ago I worked with Yves Gélinas to restore and transfer his 16MM film of the above title to HD. I had worked in film years ago and when I saw it just felt it was a poetic work of art and great transporting piece. Yves also created and sells the Capehorn wind vanes - you might know him from that work as well.


It turned out the day we transferred the film was his 75th birthday. He still actively sails and is a wonderful person to spend time with.


In a day before the immediacy and convenience of GoPros and other great tools, Yves sailed around the world documenting an amazing journey. I hope you get a chance to see the film and enjoy it as much as I still do watching it over and over again.

Even though it is old it was very well done.

Its a great movie and i recently ordered and paid for the bluray but received the original dvd version :-( I couldnt be buggered to do a return and enjoy the dvd but the hi def trailer did look great!

The Blu Ray version is from the transfer that I with did with Yves. Who did you order it from? So much better than the SD version. Yves a little while ago in photo below

I think it was capehorn.com but not sure now. It had both versions on the page but def selected and paid for bluray. Wierd but no biggie.

Yves is awesome! I mounted his elegant Cape Horn on my boat prior to sailing from New England to Annapolis. Had a few (owner installation) issues with it on the way down, and arrived on boat show weekend. I met up with him at the show and mentioned my problem and he freakin' closed his booth and walked over the bridge to my boat and spent 20 minutes giving me advice on the fix! Total customer service!

Yves is a cool guy, we had dinner together 30 years ago in Vancouver when he came out to do some installs on some friends boats. He's a very resourceful individual and he designed and built a very good self steering wind vane. His video is certainly worth watching as it gives you some in site into what offshore sailing was like at the time.

A video definitely worth watching. Very well done especially considering Yves lack of sponsorship and the eqipment available at that time. As others have said he's a very resourceful guy. His solution to getting engine propulsion is an example.
