Marina in Jacksonville, FL Area

Any ideas on a marina in the Jacksonville, FL area? I am sailing north and want to go into the ICW at Jacksonville. My boat draft is 7 ft and I am looking for a marina where I can spend 3-7 days waiting for crew to fly in.
The boat will be unattended for about 8 hours while I go to the airport.

In 1999 I went to Ortega River Boatyard but had a problem with the shallow water so I don't want to try that again. I have looked at Active Captain but the reviews for Arlington Marina and Seafarers Marina are not good. Most of the marinas can't handle my 7 ft draft.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I wish I could be of more help with your 7' draft, but I will say that we are at the Marina at Ortega Landing, and it would definitely be a very safe place to leave your boat. Lots of good people to look out for you. I'm just not certain about the draft, but I feel we are in right about 10' in our slip. I hope this helps. I'm sure if you call Bruce the harbormaster here he will have an answer for you, and if this marina doesn't work maybe he can suggest one.

I've spent some time at Seafarers and at Ortega Landing. 7' at Ortega landing is a challenge. You will be in the mud at low tide and you need a good high tide to get in. Seafarers is where boats go to die. The price is right but 98% of the boats there can not move.

Maybe St. Augustine or one of the marinas on the St. Johns near Mayport.

We stayed there for a week in 2012 and loved it. That's arguably the nicest marina we've ever stayed at.

7 foot draft? Have you looked at marinas in Mayport? How about Green Cove Springs?

Thanks for the info. I had contacted Camachee Cove Yacht Harbor and they say the controlling depth is 6 ft. Do you know what the bottom is like? Mud?

tomeclipse....Located across from Jaguars Stadium, Metro Park Municipal Marina is free dockage for 72 hours, electricity is available for $8.75 per 24 hrs unless it's changed recently. Free pump out. Has "inside slips" out of the St. John's current. The Jacksonville Fire Dept keeps their boats docked adjacent also. Very Secure.

I would disagree with Arlington Marina being a poor choice. But I am prejudice as I live next door to them . If you change your mind and decide to utilize the facility,call on ch 16, request to tie up on South/"A" dock as this will always give river current on the nose. If you have to use North/ "B" dock, if you try to Med moor, the currents will not be kind to you.

You might investigate Fernandina Harbor Marina in Fernandina Beach. The depth on their face dock should be fine, and they are probably closer to the Jacksonville Airport than most of Jacksonville is.
Fernandina/St. Marys River is a class A inlet.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking but active captain is your friend here. I've only stayed at the Marina at Ortega Landing and as you say, you might have trouble with that or any of the marinas on the Ortega River. There's a marina in Green Cove Springs that used to house a fleet of US Navy ships so I'm pretty sure it could handle your draft. Its near the bridge.

I'm at St. Augustine Marine Center and have been for two years.

Great place. Close to Jax.

They can handle over 10 feet deep...

yep the landing would indeed. also right up form there use to be a city built docks. they use to be free first come dont know if there still like that.

I don't think so. There's a time limit and based on staying there one night, I wouldn't recommend leaving a boat there unattended for more than a few hours in the daytime. I had some very interesting experiences there.

Jacksonville Beach Marina was quite good. Nice people and easy to deal with. Good bar and restaurant.
