Name change on new to me boat

I am purchasing a boat, and changing its name via the Coast Guard documentation procedure on closing.

How long do I have to physically change the name of the boat on the boat itself?

Until right before you get stopped by the CG.

Re: Name change on new to me boat

It took me about eight months from the time I submitted the purchase paperwork to the Coast Guard with the new name until I changed it on the boat itself. I needed to wait for a day when it was warm enough and at the same time I had enough free time to clean the hull and apply the lettering.

Of course it took them seven months to get me my documentation papers.

Why don't you just ask the Coast Guard?

Agreed. You'll have it done before you get the paperwork back from that CG anyway. I'm waiting on paperwork from a late February close, not even close says the documentation rep.
