Ok this is getting very frustrating... Im trying to do everything right but that seems to be a full exercise in frustration!!!
I have a
catamaran and its located in
St Kitts. We are the only
catamaran based here (except the bigger party cats which attract a different crowd) and we are constantly getting requests to take people out and for day
charter type requests.
We currently meet all the required
regulations for
St Kitts. But the flag state is an issue....
1) I do not want to flag it in
St Kitts because we don't trust customs if the boat becomes a "local" boat. Anyone who has checked in here has an idea what Im talking about. It can legally and cleanly operate as a foreign boat, and even our ferries that ply back and forth between our 2 islands are foreign flagged (most in Antigua).
2) The boat is currently flagged in St Martin, but I cannot get any answers out of the authorities there and since their independence they seem to be in quite some disarray and not sure if they've figured out who does what yet.
As I understand we become a "large" vessel after 12 people. We don't need to take above 12 people.
The boat will not be chartered out without myself or one of the captains who runs the boat for me at times and is on the
insurance. The
insurance will offer me
commercial insurance, so my only issue is the flag state. In addition to day charters around St Kitts, people are asking to make shopping trips to Statia etc.
Can someone give me some clear answers regarding what requirements I would have regarding my
registration? If I cant get clear (or for that matter any answers) out of St Martin can someone recommend a flag state that would be appropriate for this?
