Traveler Repair help/ question

How do you measure a traveler Car, we may need to replace ours if we don't weld it up to reinforce, it has some worn out pin holes and cracks. No idea how to measure to see if it's a 32mm or 27mm. Where do you take the measurement? The bolt holes for the rail itself are 4" on center. The rail is perfect just the car is funked up.

Don't try to measure the traveller car. Measure the maximum width of the track across the top.

I seem to remember you have a FP Athena, in which case the original is an Amiot 32mm recirculating ball car which is pretty rubbish, obsolete and now taken over by Goit. I have found varous places on the web such as Rig Rite who apparently sell bits
Rig-Rite Inc. - Masts, Booms, Spars, Rigging, and Hardware for Sailboats.
Search Amiot main traveller.
Failing that, its either a DIY repair or fit a alternative system which will require new track, car, stops etc.
The balls are 8mm and available from a number of sources such as Harken. I have to sort mine out soon so would be interested on how you get on.

Thanks, it is Amiot / goiot, rigrite shows the part but no.response from them. Checking with Harken to see if they make a car thst will work on our track. We can re weld the sides and top of our car but have cracks also on our toggles. Ill let you know what we do!

Well, Rigrite, wants $1998.00 so not gonna happen. We can reweld ours up. My concern is, if we use shackles instead of toggles, any slack will allow shock loads on all the components. So we would need to find a way to spring it or keep the shackles from going slack.

Have you looked at Garhauer Marine Hardware -12800440 They have really good products and don't charge nearly as much as the other guys. They may have something that will fit or you might be able to get a new system for less then what Rigrite wants.

We welded a thick plate on each side, drilled holes, purchased new toggles $40each, ordered new torlon balls, $120.00 and bolts, so for less then 300. Good as new.
