Teak Deck Replacement - Asia

Can anyone recommend a yard in SE Asia for teak deck project. Singapore , Malaysia or Thailand is ok. I know of Precision Shipwrights but they are top end of town and the project will be on a Rassy 312.

Hi Matt

I would do mine in Phuket.

Hard to get teak in Malaysia. One guy in Penang could the work but you have to bring in the teak from Thailand which is another middle man here.

Singapore ? Met one supplier who sells Burma teak. Super expensive labour .

Take your pick.

Did a trip to SE asia recently. Everyone told me, Phuket. One guy Chinese from Taiwan is claimed to be very very good. The work is economical. You could try contacting a broker, they may point you in good direction. But don't expect a good tradesman to be literate never mind computer savy.

I think they do it up in the gulf of thailand as well. Pattaya/OMYC. I'm not sure who to contact.

Its a while ago now but I'm sure there is no direct contact, someone told me, it could of been the manager, Mt Choo a boat lagoon Marina Krabi, it could of been Alan Tatton "alan at langkawibss dot com", but I reckon if you are in the boat lagoon area in Phuket ask around. A local broker with plenty of knowledge is alan at "boats@ boatshedphuket dot com may help.

We had the decks replaced by Nai and Toe at Boat Lagoon 10 years ago, and would highly recommend them if they are still in business.
