Nah, bet it was filmed whilst supported by strops in a boat lift. that or tied securely to a harbour wall as the tide goes out.

Re: Seacock warning, probably most relevant to Australians

Managed to replace the first failed fitting last night while lying on a mudbank. Not the recommended approach, but anyway, here’s the failed fitting.

A bit “pink” around the shaft bush, suggesting dezincification.

Yep, I bet that’s brass, while the housing, which looks good, is bronze. This is why I keep mentioning to not choose valves that use brass parts. I wish if people only remember one thing that this is it: no brass

By the time I’ve paid for everything on the boat I certainly don’t have any brass left.

Seacock warning, probably most relevant to Australians

Another follow up....

I removed two of the larger skin fittings and associated seacocks when I slipped the boat a month or so back. I just checked the fittings I had removed to see how they’d held up, as they were installed at the same time as the failed seacocks.

They were a different brand, SSM according to the handles, and both were perfectly fine. Now I am reasonably certain I bought these from whitworths at the same time as the others, so maybe they do different brands depending on size.

Anyway, the SSMs were just fine after six years.
