Replacement Engine Control Lever

Hello

First post for me .

I recently purchased a 1985 model Hallberg Rassy 42E. I don't know if it was the previous owner, or whether they shipped this way, but at 8 inches the engine control lever is about 2 inches too long. The control lever is mounted on a pedestal directly to the right of the binnacle and in front of the helm.
When putting the engine in reverse the lever pokes into the plane of the steering wheel. This makes reversing a bit dangerous since turning the wheel to starboard would cause the spokes to knock the throttle down and give you an unexpected burst of thrust, and turning to port will kill the thrust by knocking the lever up towards neutral position.

The solution seems simple: Get a shorter, 6" version of the engine control lever. However perusing the various online chandleries and websites for parts makers like Vetus and Edson does not turn up anything "exactly" like what I think I need.

So if any kind soul has experience with the single-control-lever onboard the old Hallberg Rassys I'd be most obliged for any advice you can give me.

Re: Replacement Engine Control Lever

Nearly solved. I got in touch with hr-parts.com and they said to try Volvo Penta directly. After a bit of googling with image search I actually managed to track down what looks like the exact part I need. I will see what my local parts dealer has to say about this.

I post the link here for future reference :

Volvo Penta Exploded view / schematic Control for top Installation: 851603 AD30A, AQAD30A, MD30A, TAMD30A, TMD30A - MarinePartsEurope.com
