refit nightmare begins

I was at the yard yesterday helping a friend get his boat hauled and I noticed a late model Jeanneau 56' that has completely sunk and was floated after several months and transported to the yard. The new owner paid $16,000 for the wreck and was going to "fix it up". He was tell us that the boat had a leak somewhere and he could not find it so his solution was to fill the boat with water on land and look for the leak. Now here is a guy who knows nothing about boats who is going to completely refit this total loss of a boat with no knowledge or idea where to even begin. About the only thing salvageable on the boat was the mast and boom. It will be interesting to see how much money gets poured into this mess before he goes screaming into the night. Clock is ticking.

It seems every yard has one or more of these boats in it. 56’, sunk for a few months. Talk about a bottomless money pit.

Tut, tut, all this negativity.

He'll give it a hose out, change the oil in the engine and be off around the world in a couple of weeks.

Re: refit nightmare begins

You could advise him to add 10 # of red dye to the water when he fills his boat up with water again to find the leak. The dye wil make the leak more noticeable. Of course the dye will stain everything red inside and hopefully encourage him to immediately cut his losses and walk away from the mess before he looses his sanity, wife, house and dog to boatrupcy.. it’s the only humane thing to do...

You guys are a bunch of naysayers! Look at the bright side. This genius has just solved the, "What do I need to do today?" and "Where should I put my extra money?" problems that face rich folk on a regular basis.
