Need help with fiberglass repair

Hey guys. I got a bit of hull damage this week and would like some advice on what to do about it. The anchor came loose from the pulpit and made two little gouges in the upper hull. Its above the waterline so no real danger of sinking but i want to know if i need to rebuild the fiberglass or if i can just thicken some epoxy and fill the holes in. I included pictures with a penny for size comparison

Thanks
Z

buy some gelcoat, mix it up, apply with a small brush, build it up, sand it down, sail on. No epoxy here, it'll die in the sun.

Ouch! Sorry.

Call West Marine. Make sure they know the full extent of the damage so they recommend the correct products.

I would put some wide waterproof tape over that to keep it dry if it has not yet gotten wet.

Don't be tempted to try a patch with silicone. It will go deep into the pores of your fiberglass making a true repair a much bigger job.

Hey need a couple extra thru hulls? That would be one way to fix it. .

Cosmetic,You can do it your self, but I,wouldn't,color matching Gel is tough enough for an experiencd person let alone an amature,From your pictures my local glass man would probably charge 200.00 or less to repair all area'I,would consider this cheep as you would have to sand feather the edges clean apply gel sand apply gel and finish probably around 30 to 50 bucks in material.Check local glass repair guy's.
Good Luck

Re: Need help with fiberglass repair

one of the areas is about 1/8th" deep. Do i need to mix the gelcoat with some sort of filler, or just go with gelcoat by itself and try and layer it on?

P.S. Im not terribly worried about color matching the gelcoat. Its a '75, i cant screw it up much more than has already been done to it
