My boat has developed a list to Port

So this is strange, my 36 Watkins CC has been tied to my dock for over a month, nothing has been changed or added. I now have a slight list to port. The Bilge is dry. She had a complete bottom job last summer. So what can be causing this? It has to be water penetration somewhere, I do have some port side deck issues that are "on my list" Is it possible the deck has absorbed enough moisture to add weight? Anyone have any similar experiences?

Simplest explanations first. Is your holding tank on one side? Is it now full?

My bet is twin tanks with an open crossover but I don't know anything about this particular model of sailboat.

How slight of a list and what is the rate of growth on the hull in your area? The other idea of a full holding tank is possible as well has the list become apparent without you being on the vessel all month? If so I would be looking at below waterline growth first mine can develop that condition in a couple weeks in some anchorages I go to due to high local fouling rates

WATKINS 36C sailboat specifications and details on sailboatdata.com the head is on the port with holding tank in the same area according to drawings all other tankage spans the centerline. IIRC

The full holding tank (or tanks) sounds likely.

Full large water or fuel tank on one side?

Bought a lot of beer (canned food) and put it in the lockers lately?

You mentioned it is tied to a dock and has been there for over a month.

I suspect:

Silting in your marina, with the keel now on the bottom and listing to the deeper water?

Low tide when you observe the list (with keel touching bottom)?

I suspect a light breeze over the starboard side. If you're in salt water and the tide was out, a light breeze might not have been felt at dock level but was perhaps enough of a breeze at the mast head to put your waterline down on the port side.

If a slight list to port is the biggest problem with your boat, you have a pretty excellent boat.

Having said that, fiberglass does absorb water...lots of it. It could be more water absorbed on one side due to cracks, or less water absorbed due to sun and wind.

Moving a few cans or water bottles will likely solve the problem.

On my old C&C25, I would sleep in the saloon berth on one side, and the wife on the other side. She would get mad because the boat would be leaning to my side, and she would be sliding out of her bunk. So she would wake me up, and we would switch berths. But then the same thing happened, just the other direction. The problem was that I weigh double what she does. The problem was finally solved by stowing all the spare water jugs under her berth.

Boats are like women. They CAN be tender. And it is one reason boats are called "she."

You may also want to check your standing rigging. Improper tension /loose shrouds on one side may allow mast to drift over. Doesn't take much of an angle aloft to shift weight and cause list.

I actually had a slight list I couldn't figure out this spring and upon investigation, I discovered that over the winter I had left several cases of beer and cider in my starboard side fridge and deep freeze, the list is gone now.

Although there is a potential that this is quite serious, I have the same problem.

At the beginning of the season the water tank on the starboard side is full and so is the wine and beer locker also on the starboard side the boat so it has a definite list to starboard. As the cruising season progresses, the boat develops a list to the port side. That's the side with the holding tank.
