Hydraulic Pilot Ram Hose Connections

Dear all
Hope someone can answer this simple question ( I hope)
Just replacing my hydraulic hoses on my auto pilot ram! Can someone confirm if you use pft tape or plumbers tape on the threads to ensure good seal!!!
Any help would be great

No tape on Flared fittings. If your talking about the pipe threads then yes. Leave a thread or two when you apply the tape.

It's my understanding that the brass Aero-quip fittings are, by standard, not taped.

Tape on hydraulic fittings is not a good idea and will usually leak. Get a product made by Loctite that is used for hydraulic pipe threads. It's either blue or red in color and insures a good seal. I have worked on a lot of commercial hydraulic systems.

So to recap
One end is flared or cone like so no tape needed and then on straight fitting a loktite product of some sort!
I have just noticed that they have washers already inserted.

That sounds like an O-R-B connector with straight threads. Don't use any sealant at all if it is. The flared side seals with a metal to metal tight contact and the thread side seals with an o-ring. These are better tan pipe thread fittings for hydraulic.

Lancerbye it sounds like you have more experience then I in this but would using this permatex product http://www.permatex.com/products/aut...ic_Sealant.htm or an equivalent have an adverse affect on any threads. It is my understanding that this product is used to fill any small voids in the threads and will hold a pressure of 10,000 PSI. I cannot see how this would "hurt" an installation. I have a problem with my AP and have a very small leak in the threads. I believe they are pipe thread but am not sure. Seems to me that this product would hold.

That is the same stuff as the Locktite stuff. I guess Locktite's patent must have run out. lol That works good on any hydraulic pipe thread, I have used it's equivalent on brass, stainless and steel. But if it is a straight thread with an o-ring base don't use anything. the threads are not intended to seal.
