That works really well! Could you post photos and details of the attachment point and foot? Is the length adjustable? I have been thinking of making something like that for my boat, but had not seen anything that looked sturdy enough; I had been considering a two leg setup for stability.

Length is not adjustable. I sized the length for a 10 degree list (assuming level substrait).

Attachment is via a 1" diameter bolt (is a little over-kill) through an unused chainplate pad. A hull frame is located on center with the attachment. The spacer is a block of wood shaped to match the hull and gunwale.

Tube is schedule 80 pipe. Wall is about 5/16" thick.

Stiffeners on bottom of foot penetrate the substrait easily and prevent (in theory) the foot from sliding around. It is important that the foot not engage the substrait until the keel is well grounded so as not to place side loads on the leg in the event of boat movements.

Although I started the project without a schedule, I certainly did not anticipate 14 years to completion. In the grand scheme of things, the timing was just right. The boat got finished when I was goddamn good and ready to finish it.

By many persons standards, Panope is a very simple boat with mostly manual systems. It is however, far better equipped than I had originally visioned. I suppose my priorities changed but mostly this is due to my having more money to spend on the boat has the years rolled by.

I am gonna go ahead and say that this project is done. The boat is sailing well, she is fully functional as a weekend cruiser, and all systems are working as designed.

I'll probably stop making new entries to this thread as there are no new interesting projects left (just a couple of finish work jobs). However, I will happily continue to answer any questions that anyone posts.

Lastly, the positive support that I have received from this forum has been greatly appreciated. Many thanks to all who have contributed.

Keep pluggin away at that miserable sanding. You will soon be done with it and get your hull flipped over. That's when the real fun begins.

Congratulations on calling it done! I have 10 years into mine and still have more to do, but it's sailing. Had enough building for awhile, put enough material and tools on board so there is always something to do if there is any spare time and took off for a year to go sailing.

Well done mate, just starting on my project! With a one year old kid it's slow going but very inspired by your work.

One day hopefully I will be sailing Snowpetrel II up your way.

From a personal perspective I would love to see more posts and updates here on any voyages you make in her and the interesting minor tweeks you will no doubt continue to make. But I understand if you want to close this thread and call it done.

I'll keep posting interesting stuff as it happens. No big adventures this year, just day sails and perhaps some weekend getaways to the San Juan Islands.

If you can make it up this way, it would be good to share and anchorage and a beer someday.

In the meantime, any chance you might start a thread depicting your project? I enjoy looking at others work almost as much as doing my own stuff.

A great day trip to my favorite cove. Its about 20 miles north of my home port. Winds were light for the trip over but the afternoon westerlies were right on schedule for the trip home. Was able to sail off the anchorage and continue all the way home to the marina entrance on the same tack - a beam reach with winds in the mid to upper teens.

A new (for me) sail combination proved to be the best so far for these winds. Drifter and a single reef in the main. Perfect.
